Chateau De Barbirey

Last weekend, along with my good friend Sam, I had the absolute pleasure of travelling over to France to photograph Olivia and James’ stunningly beautiful, Chateau De Barbirey wedding! This wonderful venue is nestled in a valley not far from Dijon, in the region of Burgundy, and is just the most beautiful setting.

We joined Olivia and James, and their families, as they were getting started on preparations on the morning of the wedding. Olivia and the girls were on the top floor of the chateau and well underway with hair and make-up, whilst James and the boys were running errands over towards the barn and having a chill out and a game of table tennis. It was such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere.

I’m sure you’ll agree that Olivia’s dress was just incredible!! The pretty lace blouse over her elegant slip dress looked stunning, and that veil too! I loved photographing in the super light and airy bedrooms of the chateau and also watching everyone tiptoe up and down that staircase too… gorgeous!

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place outside on the lawn and was conducted wonderfully by cousin Matthew… The flower arch looked super pretty as a backdrop and watching the girls all walk down the hill from the chateau was a lovely moment. Once they were announced as husband and wife the flower girls handed out confetti for an exit with impact and then followed a champagne tower!! This was the first time I’d photographed this French tradition and it was great fun! We took some family photographs with the backdrop of the chateau and I loved the co-ordination of the traditional French shutters with the blues of the bridesmaids dresses and the hydrangeas in the bouquets… the colours were stunning!

After an amazing bouquet toss and some glorious portraits of the bride and groom in the evening sun, we all headed inside the barn for a candlelit wedding breakfast and speeches. As with most French weddings we were treated to a delicious meal (thank you Olivia and James and their incredible caterers) which was lovely to be able to sit with the other suppliers after we’d all worked so hard and got to know each other throughout the day.

The Evening

Olivia made a quick change for the night-time celebrations and they re-entered the barn through sparklers to cut their croquembouche cake… wow!!! Then followed lots of fun and dancing into the early hours for all their family and friends… and for us a slightly  earlier night after a long but unbelievable day.

I honestly loved every single minute of this wedding! It was such a pleasure to experience and photograph and both Sam and I had great fun being there. We also managed a little bit of sightseeing in Dijon whilst we were over there which was a great bonus… such an interesting place!

Thank you for having us Olivia, James and your families too…. here’s your preview!
