On Saturday we had the absolute privilege of photographing Marina and Kieron’s Chateau de Brives Wedding, near Cognac. I took Dave along with me to second shoot (he’s especially keen to help out when it’s a destination wedding!) and we flew out to France and made our way over to Cognac in time to do a spot of sightseeing and settle in before the wedding.
What an absolutely beautiful venue! Chateau de Brives is set in a quaint village with vineyards in every direction as far as the eye can see. We were in our element with magical light, exquisite interiors and sprawling grounds… the only slight challenge was that we were in the middle of a heatwave at 41 degrees… probably the hottest wedding I’ve ever been to! All the suppliers were absolute troopers though, including Sarah and George, the owners of the Chateau, and Kate, the co-ordinator (of Kate’s Weddings) who rallied round to make sure everyone had plenty of shade. The Bride and Groom were equally amazing with not a single complaint … they just had the best time in the sunshine.
We started the day inside the Chateau as everyone got ready… that spiral staircase was incredible!!! Louise A’Ness was working her hair and make-up magic with Marina and the bridesmaids as Kieron and the boys were checking out the cognac cellar. Meanwhile their super-talented florist, Mrs Whiterose, was setting up for the outdoor ceremony with an amazing pampas and fresh flower arch. Marina looked stunning in her Pronovias dress.
Marina’s brother officiated the ceremony which was absolutely stunning… with a super special musical number by her chief bridesmaid. They also had a wine ceremony where they toasted each other, which was so lovely and something I haven’t seen before. They made their exit through sprinkles of fresh petal confetti and everyone made their way over to the terrace for drinks and canapés. We took a few moments out for photographs with family on the front steps and a couple of minutes of portraits with the new Mr and Mrs.
After a drinks reception with accompanying music by The Marseilles Acoustic Band, guests were seated for speeches and dinner… and what a dinner it was! Caterers Piaud Taillac did an incredible job and made sure we were well looked after too. We managed to just about sneak in a trip through the gate and up to the Vineyard before the sun disappeared behind the late evening clouds.. it was dreamy!
The bride and groom cut their Sugar Cognac Spice cake by the pool and guests enjoyed cooling off by dipping their toes into the water (and swimming for some)… in fact I may have joined them for a couple of minutes!! It was heavenly!
They danced the night away in the barn and just before we left we captured some sparkler fun on the steps… just in time before an almighty storm appeared and the rain came down.
Thank you so much to Marina and Kieron for asking me to join you for your French Wedding and for your family and guests too for making us both feel so welcome. We loved every minute!! Here’s a quick preview…
What an unbelievable day and such an amazing trip over to Cognac and Chateau de Brives! Thank you again!!
