On Friday I photographed Rachel and Joel’s wedding at The Swan Hotel in Newby Bridge and it was quite an eventful day!! I’d seen that there had been floods forecast in the Lakes but didn’t realise we would be at risk until I arrived at the hotel and saw the level of the river! It had risen above the level of the car park and was lapping at the front door…. several people from the wedding the day before were stranded and there was doubt over whether Rachel and Joel’s day could go ahead. Luckily the rain cleared a little by lunchtime so all was fine just in time for them to get married. It was quite a sight from the window to see the water flowing so ferociously and then the sun shining on the floods.

Rachel and Joel, and in fact all their guests, were great fun all day! They had such a great time celebrating and the whole day was super laid-back without too many formalities. Their ceremony in front of the deconstructed arch (by Margot Flowers) was gorgeous and Rachel looked stunning in her Case of The Curious Bride dress.

We managed to venture out into the fresh air for a few minutes to get some portraits of the bride and groom by the river, before sitting down to dinner and speeches. They then partied the night away to their amazing UTC Events band made up of some super talented musician friends.

Here’s a quick preview of some of my favourites…
