At the beginning of summer we took a trip over to France on the Euro Tunnel and spent a week sightseeing, with a few days in the beautiful city of Rouen, a day trip to Paris, followed by a further few days staying with my Uncle Steve and Aunty Irene at their amazing home near La Haye du Puits, in Normandy. It was such a great trip! We’d been saying since last year that we wanted to travel with the girls a little more and let them experience some culture, and we now have so many amazing places on our must see list… just got to get around to actually going!

Rouen was so beautiful! We stayed in a little Air BnB apartment right in the centre, so just a one minute walk across the market each morning for fresh croissants and pain au chocolat! My absolute favourites. We visited the gallery of fine art and saw paintings by Monet amongst others, went into the cathedral  and saw the tomb of Richard the Lion Heart, and also went into the Joan of Arc church. The best moments were sitting in the main square sipping wine in the evening whilst the girls explored the ancient ruins in front of us, and watching their faces as they tried escargot (not my cup of tea either!).

We took a day trip to Paris from Rouen and after a cancelled train, ended up driving in! This was quite an experience and certainly one we’ll never forget!! We’d pre-booked tickets for the Eiffel Tower which was amazing, and then sat on the lawns close by eating macarons and eclairs.. so yummy! We also enjoyed seeing the fountains and watching some street dancers perform on the steps.

From Rouen we then travelled a couple of hours west to Uncle Steve’s, near La Haye du Puits. They have a beautiful home with endless gardens so it was lovely to relax and enjoy their company and amazing hospitality. We also had a couple of trips to the beach (only a mile or so away) and revisited Monte Castro which is a local area of natural beauty with lakes and woodland. I spent my birthday there and we took the kids bikes for an explore.

We’ll definitely be back again and would also go back to Rouen some day too as it has lots to do and see and so many good restaurants too. Here’s a few of my snaps from the trip… now just got to decide where to next??
